What You Can Do
At Home
- Remove invasive plants and replace with native species
- Maintain a “wild” area e.g. where leaf litter is allowed to accumulate, shrubs remain unpruned or grass stay uncut
- Avoid disturbance near streams. See Riparian Areas Regulation FAQ’s
- Keep your cat indoors or at least have him/her wear a bell
- Check out Wild Birds Unlimited. They have an extensive range of merchandise to attract, and to protect nature in your backyard.
Naturescape British Columbia is an excellent source of information in planning or managing your property to enhance nature.
In the Community
- Stick to park trails (dogs too) so vegetation is not disturbed
- Ask the local garden centres to stop selling English ivy, lamium, periwinkle, holly, Daphne and cherry laurel
- Contact Green Admiral directly or use the form on this website to report knotweed or hogweed, or non-native invasive plants in the forest adjacent to the urban area.
- Support a local organisation:
- Friends of Cypress Provincial Park
- Lighthouse Park Preservation Society
- Mosquito Creek Stewardship Society
- North Shore Streamkeepers
- North Shore Wetland Partners
- WBT Wild Bird Trust of British Columbia
- West Vancouver Shoreline Preservation Society
